2021 - Concrete

Concrete This object is my reaction to the distance our society has towards nature and for that m a tter, towards the humans (humanity) in this society. The s tifling constructions we so often create. We’ve got the kno w l ed ge and capability to cre a te paradise for each and every one of us, but mostly we end up creating a concrete prison. In this prison we defend our neighbourhood, our street, so no strangers will enter. We’re stuck on our island. The figures in my object try to escape this mind-numbing, hopeless and oppressive situation. We often tell ourselves: we live in prosperity, but my figures are looking for humanity, kindness, compassion. Away from the stress of this ‘modern’ world, away from this all-consuming consumer society in which endless economic growth seams to be the highest achievable. 2021 - Such a waste...

2021 - Such a Waste… Mindlessly we buy and use products. Often we don’t even need them, but we CAN buy them. Seldom we ask ourselves where they from, what they’re made of, what to do with the products we no longer need. Lot’s of our garbage doesn’t even reach the proper waste facility but lands on streets, nature: we soil our own nest. Lot’s of waste finds itself in the water, the sea and oceans. Animals die of it or it decays into nanoplastics, it remains! A lot like we treat our consuming we treat humans. For instance the refugees who flee by boats, the Syrian refugees, Venezuela and Afghanistan. Right now there over 82 million people forced to flee from their homes, approximately 35.000 find a save home… (source: UNHCR) Just like the bottles in my object, they’re left to drown...
